DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - David Green continues to be the "Test Man" for Hendrick Motorsports.
Fresh off a "Car of Tomorrow" test at Greenville-Pickens Speedway, Green climbed into the team's ARCA RE/MAX Series car on Saturday at Daytona International Speedway and was able to put the No. 87 Chevrolet second on the speed chart with a lap of 181.167 mph.
"I enjoy the heck out of coming to test with these guys," Green said. "It doesn't surprise me at all that the car is fast."
Although Green is testing at Daytona, the team could hold off on racing in the season opener and wait until later in the year with a developmental driver behind the wheel.
"I don't know whether it's going to be Daytona or Talladega, but they have some developmental stuff in the works," Green said. "We are just trying to get a head start on that deal to get everything prepared for the team for when they do that."
Josh Wise's new Eddie Sharp/Michael Waltrip Racing Toyota was the fastest again, recording a fast lap of 181.925 mph late in the afternoon.
Erin Crocker, who was one of five females testing on Saturday, was third quick in the Evernham Motorsports Dodge with a lap of 180.992 mph.
Chase Pistone continues to impress in the Bobby Jones Racing No. 50 Dodge after posting the sixth and fourth fastest times on day 1 and 2, respectively.
Bobby Gerhart, Phillip McGilton, Michael McDowell, Bryan Silas, Keven Wood and Brad Coleman rounded out the top 10 in today's session, which featured 59 cars.
Sunday's test session, the third and final day, is open to the public with access to the Oldfield Grandstand available through the lobby of DAYTONA USA.
